WINTER FUN AT WOOD MEMORIAL LIBRARY
YOUNG ARTIST PROGRAM:
Watercolor Splash,
Saturday, January 9, 2010, 2 PM. Children ages 6-10 are invited to join artist Shirley Mae Neu on an artistic adventure inspired by a delightful book about a young girl's first trip to a museum. The lesson includes illustration, watercolor & color mixing techniques, writing and the sharing of ideas.
Shirley Mae is a certified art educator who has taught in the West Hartford Public Schools and Renbrook School 's Summer Adventure Program.
All materials provided and refreshments will be served. Registration required. Limited space.

FAMILY FUNDAY: "Connecting With Connecticut ", Sunday, January 24, 2010 , 2 PM
The book "Connecting with Connecticut " is a mystery about a class of third graders who win a tour of the state capitol led by the governor. Families are invited to come meet the author, Jan Brennan an Avon English teacher, and have some fun learning about Connecticut . The afternoon includes games for the children, a slide show filled with fun facts and trivia about Connecticut , a short reading and book signing. Refreshments will be served. Registration is required. Snow date: Sunday, January 31. Cost: $5 per person/$20 per family.

YOUNG ARTIST PROGRAM: "VALENTINE EXPRESS"
, Saturday, February 6, 2010 , 2 PM
Children ages 6-10 are invited to meet author/illustrator Nancy Elizabeth Wallace and share her book "Valentine Express". Children will learn about how a book is made and make two valentines, one to keep and one to send to residents at South Windsor Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center on Main Street . All materials are provided. The afternoon will include a book signing opportunity. Cookies and lemonade will be served. Snow date: Sunday, February 7, 2010 . Cost: $10

YOUNG ARTIST SAVINGS!!! Students signing up for both Young Artist Programs, Watercolor Splash and Valentine Express, (Jan. 9 and Feb. 6) will pay only $15, a savings of $5.
GIFT CERTIFICATES for Wood programs are available for holiday gifts and stocking stuffers.
