WOOD
MEMORIAL LIBRARY TRIPS JOHN
AND LYNN WADHAMS, TRIP LEADERS
SATURDAY JUNE 27th: departure from Wood Memorial Library (8:00 AM) and Sheraton Hotel in East Hartford (8:15 AM) for THE FREDERICK COLLECTION. The Frederick Collection, in Ashburnham, Massachusetts, is a priceless collection of some 27 grand pianos, dating from 1795 to 1907. These pianos have been assembled and restored over the years by Michael and Patricia Frederick, both of whom are outstanding musicologists, piano historians, as well as accomplished pianists. We will be the only visitors on June 27th as Mike and Patricia treat us to a private lecture/demonstration of these historic instruments. Those who care to bring music with them, or who have pieces committed to memory, will be invited to try out one of the pianos. The piano makers represented include such internationally known names as Brodmann (1800), Clementi (1805), Bösendorfer (1828 and 1845), Graf, Erard, Pleyel, Chickering (1862), Steinway (1866) Streicher, Broadwood, and Blüthner (1877). The great composers owned and composed upon identical pianos. The $115 trip price includes bus transportation, museum admission, lunch in the gardens of Harley House in nearby Lunenburg and a tax deductible gift to Wood Memorial Library, a non profit cultural center in South Windsor. John and Lynn have led 28 trips to the Glimmerglass Opera and to Bard College since 1993 which many of you have joined. John is President of Connecticut Concert Opera and is Executive Director of Wood Memorial Library. Note: the trip is limited to 25, and we encourage an early response to avoid disappointment. Yes,
