We
have heard Corbin play recently, and are impressed with his technical skills and
his clear understanding of music's power, emotion, and style. He is a remarkably
talented young artist.
Corbin
will be playing on Wood's 1895 fully restored Steinway grand piano, the same instrument
his most recent teacher, Luiz de Moura Castro has performed on several times as
a featured artist in the South Windsor Cultural Arts chamber music series at Wood. We
are sending you this note because you are either a patron of the South Windsor
Cultural Arts Series or you are a member of the Musical Club of Hartford, with
a piano specialty. We know that
some of you are piano teachers. You should know that Corbin would be a great mentor
for your students. He will be introducing his program -"Trolls, Gnomes, Devils
and Diabolical Scenes"-personally. The program promises to be delightful
for adults and students alike. We
have a generous benefactor whose gift makes it possible for us to provide free
admission for piano students when accompanied by their teacher or with a note
from their teacher. Adult (and Teacher's) admission is $5, with a maximum of $15
per family. A reservation is strongly
recommended as Wood's recital hall has a limited seating capacity. To reserve
seats, call 860 289-1783 Mondays and Thursdays from 10 AM to 8 PM, or leave
a message at other times. MasterCard and VISA are accepted. The
concert is also an opportunity for you to visit Wood Library, an architectural
gem located at 783 Main Street in the Historic District of South Windsor. We are
only 10 minutes from downtown Hartford, and can easily give you directions on
the phone, or you can get directions by visiting our website at woodmemoriallibrary.org. Corbin
will be playing Four Lyric Pieces by Edvard Grieg, including "Elve's Dance",
"March of the Trolls", and "Little Troll"; Robert Schumann's
"Papillons" ("Butterflies"); two Concert Etudes: "Forest
Murmurs" and "Dance of the Gnomes", the Mephisto Polka and two
Transcendental Etudes: "Fireflies" and "Mazeppa", all by Franz
Liszt. We hope you can join us
for what promises to be a memorable afternoon of music making. Refreshments will
be served after the concert in Wood's art gallery.
