Limited Sale of Paintings by Albertus E. Jones (1882-1957)WPA Artist Amy Royse, the great granddaughter of Albertus Jones, has commissioned Wood Memorial Library to sell a small group of Jones's oil paintings. Albertus Jones lived on Main Street in South Windsor, two doors south of Wood Library and in Hamburg Cove. He was a highly regarded landscape painter and WPA artist who studied with Charles Noel Flagg. Jones taught at the Connecticut League of Art Students, the Randall School, and the School for Creative Work, in Hartford. Several of his paintings are in Wood's collection. He exhibited and received prizes at the Connecticut Association of Fine Artists shows beginning in 1912 through 1934. He also took prizes for his work at the Connecticut Watercolor Society in 4 different shows, at the Bridgeport Art League, the New Hampshire Paint and Clay Club and the Wadsworth Atheneum. The New Britain Museum of American Art has recently added an oil painting by Albertus E. Jones entitled "Sag Harbor Buildings" to it's permanent collection.
