AMERICAN GIRL SPRING TEA
AT WOOD MEMORIAL LIBRARY
SATURDAY, APRIL 1, 2017
TWO SESSIONS, 1:00 – 3:00 PM or 2:00 – 4:00 PM
LAURA INGALLS WILDER: THE WRITER OF THE FRONTIER
WITH SHERYL FAYE
Please join Wood for our special annual American Girl Spring Tea, for children ages, 6-12 and their moms or caregiver on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Wood welcomes back Sheryl Faye, a talented and professional character actress, who has performed here previously as Helen Keller for an American Girl program. We are happy to have her come as Laura Ingalls Wilder for this year’s tea.
Laura Ingalls Wilder is a writer and role model whose words bring to life the pioneer times during which she grew up. Children will learn about her encounters with neighboring Indians, her first experiences in school, the brutal winters which almost broke her family, and the joy Laura found in the simple things in life: “love and duty, work and rest, and living close to nature.”
Additionally, children will see the development of a writer beginning with simple storytelling, to Laura creating pictures for her blind sister, Mary, to the development of her “Little House” books at the encouragement of her daughter, Rose. Laura will also introduce simple writing terms and techniques which are grade-level appropriate and reinforce the way writing is taught in schools, leaving children with the challenge to write their own special stories.
There will also be a local vendor at Wood that afternoon, Donna Fletcher, who sews doll clothes and creates items for American Girl size dolls. These items sell at very reasonable prices. Donna takes cash or checks only.
Cost is $20.00 for a mother or caregiver and child and $10.00 each for any additional children. Cash, Check or Visa and MasterCard are accepted for registration. Wood Memorial Library and Museum is located at 783 Main Street in South Windsor, CT. Hours are 10:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday & Thursday. Please call (860) 289-1783, or visit the library to register. Visit our website www.woodmemoriallibrary.org for more information about Wood’s 2017 events.
